Celebrating Friendship Day

We’re delighted to bring the community together to celebrate old and new connections for Friendship Day! Make new connections or celebrate the important friendships in your life. Enjoy a free lunch at the beautiful Space For All on August 15th, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Discover volunteer opportunities, visit our photo booth, and meet new people. Everyone is guaranteed a warm welcome!

Why we're hosting this event

At The Link Visiting Scheme, we believe in changing lives through friendship. For over 25 years, we have brought vital, life-enhancing social connections to older people and volunteers in Wokingham Borough. Our mission is to reduce loneliness among older people and bring generations together in friendship and shared experiences.

We offer one-to-one befriending, Friendship Groups, activities, events, and long-term projects such as Community Kitchen and Link to Nature. We even provide fun and support on Christmas Day! We have seen the positive impact of friendship where we provide quality time, a listening ear, and focused attention on individuals who often feel invisible and forgotten.

We’re also keen to raise awareness in Wokingham of Link Thursdays! Link Thursdays at Space for All is a weekly community space and café open from 10am-3pm every Thursday. We host a range of activities, friendship tables, and pride ourselves with being dementia friendly. This project was set up with the aim of providing a welcoming space for anyone local who is feeling lonely and isolated. The newly refurbished All Saints Church offers hot drinks, freshly baked cakes, and snacks to be enjoyed by all!

Our impact

Through our work, we have transformed thousands of lives and continue to reach hundreds of older people every year. The Link Visiting Scheme could not offer this life-changing help without our volunteers, partners, and employees. We have a unique understanding of the root causes and impacts of loneliness and how best to tackle them in the local area. Our expertise is based on years of experience and collaboration with, and learning from, other organisations both locally and nationally.
