Funding is needed to run activities for our Link Friends, as having something fun in the diary to look forward to makes all the difference. From bowls to singalong, there’s something for everyone.

About us

Our overall goal is to reduce the chronic loneliness and social isolation felt by older people throughout the Wokingham Borough. We are an award-winning befriending charity that recruits and matches dedicated volunteers with those who would love to see a friendly face on a regular basis. Our solution to the problem of loneliness and isolation is simple and effective; a range of friendship-based activities designed to enable older people to build cherished relationships, grow in confidence and feel connected to their local community once again. Our work also helps to reduce pressure on their families and carers – whose anxiety is alleviated by the knowledge that local support and much-needed respite is at hand.

How we bring people in the community together

The Link runs a varied calendar of fun, social activities to help connect older people with their local community. This project will ultimately enhance the overall wellbeing and quality of life for older people by: reducing their social isolation and loneliness; improving their health and wellbeing; and increasing their confidence and independence. We have a unique understanding, not only of the root causes and impacts of loneliness, but also of how best to tackle them in the local area. We have been nationally recognised for our work, receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
