Active Minds

We want to extend a huge thank you to our volunteers and activities coordinator, Beth, who have just finished the first Active Minds course since the pandemic.

Beth has said ‘being involved in Active Minds has been so rewarding. Our Link Friends start as strangers, but leave as friends. It’s a safe place where everyone understands each other. We focus on using different areas of our brains, especially discussion and giving our opinions on a variety of topics. It’s great to see everybody joining in and supporting each other. We have so much fun, it’s a really special activity and I’m honoured to be part of it’.

“I have so enjoyed challenging myself and having discussions that make me think.”

The 8 week course is for older people who are experiencing symptoms of cognitive impairment such as forgetfulness or difficulty in making decisions. Each session has up to 10 people who will participate in volunteer facilitated activities with the focus being on building confidence, making connections and having fun!

We have received wonderful feedback and are looking forward to the next course.

“Active Minds has opened up my world again. I have made new friends and can see much brighter days ahead.”

“It’s the highlight of my week – we laugh so much!”

Some of those who attended Active Minds have begun their own lunch club! It is so lovely to hear friendships and connections have been formed and that the course has been so enriching to their lives.
