Loneliness Awareness Week 2022

It's Loneliness Awareness Week created and hosted by Marmalade Trust .

Everything we do at the Link aims to help those who are experiencing loneliness and isolation. So in honour of Loneliness Awareness Week we wanted to share a story of how the Link has helped older people build meaningful friendships within their community.

Claire, One of our volunteers, recently took her Link Friend, June, on a surprise day out to the seaside for her 90th birthday! They visited June’s previous volunteer Ian who moved to the coast. They all had a lovely time enjoying the beautiful weather, some fish and chips, and an ice cream. Ian and June enjoyed a long overdue catch-up, a memory which we’re sure they will both relish. Claire said June didn’t stop smiling all day!

We are so pleased to see June loved her birthday surprise!

Hearing stories like this one make us see what a huge difference we are making to older people in our community, who are especially vulnerable to loneliness and isolation. Our volunteers go above and beyond to change people’s lives through friendship and it is so rewarding to see so many smiles from our Link Friends and Volunteers.

If any of our volunteers have had any special moments recently with their Link Friend we would love to hear from you: admin@linkvisiting.org
