Introducing our new initiative

At the end of February, Wokingham United Charities invited 12 charities to pitch for no more than 5 minutes on how £10,000 would make a difference to the work that we do. It was inspiring to hear about all the great work that goes on in our community.

We talked about our new initiative ‘Friendship Groups’.

Friendship groups will comprise of carefully selected volunteers and older people who will meet regularly to socialise as a group. The groups will consist of up to four pairs of Link volunteers and Link friends who live near each other.

Our aim is that friendships will flourish and as they get to know one another, they can plan cinema or theatre trips, afternoon teas or garden centre visits. We’d love our Link friends and volunteers to benefit from new relationships with people living nearby, providing greater social contact, support and fun!

We’re so grateful to Wokingham United Charities for the opportunity to win some extra funding! We were delighted (and surprised!) to win the top prize of £15,000!
