Link to Nature

Encouraging a renewed interest in our beloved gardens again!

We’ve always loved our gardens in this country – but with feelings of loneliness comes a lack of motivation to get outside and as our mood levels plummet it’s easy to ignore our outside spaces.

We’re hoping our new project ‘Link To Nature’ will change that for the older people we support.

With help from funding from the National Lottery, our new project is ready to go. We are working with local residents and groups to build bird feeders to bring life into our gardens from January 2021. We already have 15 handmade feeders donated by local resident Jane Scholey ready to hand out to our Link Friends and their volunteer in the New Year and we’re expecting further donations from other local residents too. We’ll keep you updated!

In January we will give each ‘couple’ a handmade bag of nature goodies to get the project started including a bird book, a recipe for bird-seed balls plus all the ingredients.

Our project will continue throughout the year and among other things we will be encouraging volunteers and Link Friends to plant pretty pollinator plants in tubs to encourage bees and butterflies back into our gardens too. A closed Facegroup page will be set up so that we can share our achievements and inspire one another.

We hope that this shared focus between our volunteers and Link Friends will help forge friendships especially for those where long conversations don’t come easily.

Research into the brilliant impact of getting into nature on our mental health is much publicised. We’re looking forward to seeing the benefits for ourselves!

To launch the project, we’ve designed a beautiful 13-month wall calendar, and all of the proceeds raised will go towards the project. Click the image below to get yours!
